Summary

Chicago is known for its rich architectural history and also for the innovation it always brings to its architectural future. The 2004 exhibition "Chicago Architecture: 10 Visions" at the Art Institute of Chicago focused on ten architects and their visions for the city's future built environment. Banners from the exhibition are perfect for fans of the windy city and its architecture.

Description

Chicago is a city known for its architectural history, richness, and innovation. So, when the Art Institute of Chicago put together a competition to select ten architects with diverse views of the city's future, the competition was stiff. The ten architects who were ultimately selected represented a true cross section of Chicago's architectural community, including big names from big firms, unique visionaries from small firms, and academics exploring uncharted ground.

The ten architects were asked to share their visions for the future built environment of Chicago, then had their ideas incorporated into the exhibition Chicago Architecture: 10 Visions, which included thought-provoking installations, spaces, environments, traditional plans, models, and projected imagery by Jeanne Gang, Douglas Garofalo, Ralph Johnson, Ron Krueck, Eva Maddox, Margaret McCurry, Elva Rubio, Katerina Ruedi Ray, Joe Valerio, and Xavier Vendrell.

The banner for the exhibition is bright yellow, with one side simply reading "Chicago Architecture" in grey and black lettering. The other side includes the museum name, "The Art Institute of Chicago" in black, exhibition dates in grey, "Through April 3", and the rest of the title of the exhibition in grey and black, "Ten Visions". The logo and name of the sponsor, Bank of America, is in black at the bottom.

Provenance

These banners were displayed around Chicago from November 26, 2004 - April 3, 2005 to promote the exhibition, Chicago Architecture: 10 Visions at the Art Institute of Chicago. It was seen exclusively at this venue.
