Sol LeWitt

At a time when Abstract Expressionists stressed a strong, physical connection between artists and their work, Sol LeWitt (b. 1928) and other Conceptual artists created detailed plans for artworks that could be executed by anyone. As he put it, “An architect doesn't go off with a shovel and dig his foundation and lay every brick. He's still an artist."
