Description

This banner from 2004 commemorates the ninetieth anniversary of The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA), founded in 1914. In those ninety years, the museum has thrived and grown through the city’s ups and downs. Diverse bequests of truly fine collections have elevated the museum to be among the best in the country.

The original museum building was designed by the architect John Russell Pope, who also designed the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. As the largest museum in Maryland, the BMA has a permanent collection with over 100,000 works. The museum’s exquisite collection of modern art includes one of the world’s largest, and finest, Matisse collections.

The banner is simple and graphical, and would be great for a true fan of Baltimore or the museum! Vertical stripes in pale yellow, lime green, gray and white make up the background for bold black text that reads, “BMA Celebrates 90 Years/1914-2004”. The sans serif typeface includes solid, pale yellow infill in closed portions of letters and. Both sides of the banner are identical. Another version of this banner features horizontal stripes.

Provenance
