Collection: 19th Century Thai

The 19th century was a transformative era for Siam (Thailand) and Burma. The outset of the century saw the arts and culture flourish, with Siam and Burma exploring their shared heritage of Theravada Buddhism. Later, British and French imperialism shaped not only the geo/political landscape, but also the arts and rich culture of South Asia. Trade that had began in the 16th century thrived by the second half of the 19th century and with it influences of Western modernization and style.
