Collection: Childe Hassam

Frederick Childe Hassam (1859-1935) was a prominent American Impressionist painter, renowned for his urban scenes and coastal seascapes. Like his contemporaries Mary Cassatt and John Henry Twachtman, he studied in Europe and gained an appreciation for the coloration, mood, diffuse light, and atmospheric work of the French Impressionists. Hassam was among those who helped Impressionism gain popularity with American collectors, dealers, and museums. During his prolific career he produced over 3,000 paintings, watercolors, etchings, and lithographs.
