French painter Elizabeth Louise Vigée-Le Brun (1755-1842) is one of a handful of female painters who gained fame during her own lifetime in the 18th century. Through her friendships with prominent people and royalty throughout Europe, she gained entrée to an exclusive world, one which she captured in her paintings. She is most recognized for her stunning portraiture and fluid painting style which created lively images with a soft, vivid, realism.
