Leon Bakst

Russian born artist Leon Bakst (c. 1886 - 1924) spent most of his career in Paris. He worked as an illustrator, portraitist, and interior designer, but is best known for his stage designs and costumes for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, the innovative and provocative modern ballet troupe. Bakst's designs for costumes and sets combined elegance and refinement with influences and vivid colors drawn from a myriad of world styles.
