Collection: Shah Jahan

The artist of the watercolor is unknown, though it was most likely painted by a member of the royal atelier. Emperor Shah Jahan (1592-1666) was well educated and an accomplished martial artist and military commander. He also was believed to have the most refined taste in art and architecture of all the Moghul emperors. Shah Jahan is responsible for the Pearl Mosque, Taj Mahal, and many other buildings in Agra, the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid Mosque in Delhi, his father's mausoleum and Shalimar Gardens in Lahore, parts of the Lahore Fort, and a mosque in Thatta.
