Summary
In advertising as in life, sometimes simplicity gets the message across best. To promote the exhibition Pioneering Modern Painting: Cézanne & Pissarro, 1865-1885 at The Museum of Modern Art, the museum opted for a clear message with great graphic appeal. Using two secondary colors, clean fonts, and varied text sizes, the banners become an attractive vehicle to convey a message, and a crisply designed work for your walls. 13 banners bring home MoMA's word(s) on the street.
Description
The Museum of Modern Art’s exhibition Pioneering Modern Painting: Cézanne & Pissarro, 1865-1885 offered insight into the powerful and often overlooked impact these two Impressionist painters had on modern art. It also explored the way the two men worked together, developing their styles, theories, and distinctly modern ideas as a team, dispelling the idea of the lone artistic genius. Their work was thoroughly modern in the way they approached subjects and used motifs, and in the way they were at once self-confident and self-critical.
Banners promoting the exhibition took a similarly modern approach, relying on vivid colors and bold text to create an eye-catching design. On a deep purplish-blue indigo background, contrasting lime green letters stand out. In large Helvetica type, they read “Cézanne & Pissarro”. By contrast the pale lavender grey text below seems subtle and muted reading “Pioneering Modern/Painting 1865-1885”. The museum’s simple, clean logo is included in white at the bottom of the banner, “MoMA/The Museum of Modern Art”. Both sides of this banner are identical
